This guitar was made in the second half of 1963 in Chicago by the Harmony Company. Silvertone Instruments were manufactured as the house brand for Sears, Roebuck & Co. At the time, they could be purchased from a catalog and were much more competitively priced than Fender and Gibson. The affordability of these instruments made them an easy choice for many budding musicians of the era, including Jimi Hendrix and Bob Dylan. The 1454 was the flagship Hollowbody guitar of the Silvertone line.
Because so many iconic musicians have cut their teeth using Silvertone Instruments, these early 1960's models have gained quite a following in the vintage market.
This instrument is in very good condition. The finish has checking all over and there are a few small paint chips on the body. The hardware has developed a patina with age. The headstock has a few dings on it where the paint has chipped off. The back of the neck has minor dings on it, along with finish checking. Neck is straight and frets are in good condition. Lower horn has paint chipped off of the edge. Hardware and electronics function as they should. The pickups are relatively high output for the era. All in all, this instrument is in quite good condition considering it is over six decades old.
